Our Philosophy
The quality of our lives is shaped not only by what we achieve, but also by how we relate—to ourselves, to those closest to us, and to the communities we belong to.
For generations, many boys and men have been taught how to compete, provide, endure, and solve problems. Far fewer have been taught how to understand themselves, build close relationships, navigate uncertainty, or adapt to the changing demands of life.
The Healthy Masculinity Center was established to contribute to that conversation.
We use the term healthy masculinity because masculinity, like every aspect of human development, can take many forms. Courage may become recklessness or quiet strength. Competitiveness may become domination or excellence. Emotional restraint may become emotional distance or beneficial self-control. The difference lies not in masculinity itself, but in how it is understood, expressed, and lived.
At no point in recent history have the social expectations of men changed as rapidly as they are changing today. Many traditional roles have evolved, relationships have become more egalitarian, and new opportunities have emerged for both women and men. These changes have brought enormous promise, but also uncertainty. Many boys and men are asking not only how to succeed, but what gives them value, purpose, and direction in today's world.
Our aim is to better understand the forces that shape men's lives and to encourage thoughtful reflection about how boys and men can flourish—in relationships, in families, at work, and in society. Here you'll find essays, commentary on current issues, practical concepts, a glossary of psychological and relationship terms, self-assessments, podcasts, and public events.
Whether you visit for five minutes or stay for years, our hope is simple: that you'll find ideas that broaden your perspective, deepen your understanding, and enrich the conversations that matter most.
